Try www.carorder.com. I have a Tundra on order with them although it
hasn’t arrived yet.

Resonating vibration at 4000RPM

Can anyone suggest what this might be;  At exactly 4000 rpm, in my
3.0 l ’93 4 Runner, I get a howling vibration that sounds to be
coming from directly behind the firewall under the radio, it’s loud
enough to drive the sound of the engine out, and it drops off
steeply at 4500 rpm.  For lack of a better description, it sounds
like a jigsaw cutting a piece of laminate.  It’s much more prominent
when the engine is cold.  I though it was a broken or loose stud on
the manifold but there are no exhaust leaks.  I also thought it
might be the cat or part of the pipe, but since having that all
replaced there is no change.  Can the water pump do something like
this if air is going through it?  Would piston ring flutter be that
loud?

Never thought about it, but I guess it could. That would be pretty
awful, it would never open since the ‘sensor’ would not be in contact
with the water, and never reach operating temperature.  Your engine
would over heat pretty quickly.

starter quetion T-100

I have an interesting happening.  This just started the other day.  In the
morning or if the truck has sat all day.  I have to turn the key twice to
start the truck.  The first turn of the key, all the lights in the dask
light up and I get a click.  Sounds like a low or dead battery.  But on the
second turnof the key, the vehicle roars to life.  The battery is strong.
This does not happen to a warm engine.

I thought it might be a clutch switch.  But the same thing happens if you
use the clutch switch override button.  Again no problem unless the vehicle
has sat for some time.

This is a 95 T-100 V-6

Any ideas?

Clock, Radio Problem '92

’92 4×2 (new to me) the clock and the radio have both failed on an
intermittant basis.

The dashboard clock fails …and… concurrently, the radio appears to
power up, bezel light comes on but unable to tune in station. Static on
speakers.

Cured by turning off vehicle and re-starting, radio lost presets.

The truck has (what appears to be) factory, rear speaker enclosures
(which inhibit the  front seat belts …) and now has a Kraco radio
which I assume was installed by a previous owner.

The link between the factory clock and the radio has me curious… I
guess both have a hot connection to the battery to preserve the
time/presets.

When the problem occurs, the clock appears to have no power…???

Any help (before I start digging in the dash) would be welcomed… ;-)

93 TOY 4×4 22RE engine surges

After the truck has warmed up the engine will surge real fast between
1300 to 800 rpm when the brake is pushed in.  If I let off the brake
it quits surging. The truck seems to be idling higher than it normally
does.  I checked the brake booster to see if it holds vacuum and it
does.

I think it may be vacuum related but not sure.

Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated

Best Brush Guard

I’m looking for some input regarding the best Brush Guard for ’92 Toyota
4Runner. To those who have purchased and installed, please advise which one
require least installation (Go Rhino, Manik, Outland/Smittybilt). My main
requirement will be something that I can replace the headlight w/o
deinstalling the guard. Please advise. Thanks.
