94 v6 cold idle

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:58 am

Hello all….

I’ve got a 94 ext cab v6 4×4.

The motor is idling cold at about 2000 rpm.  This seems a little high to me.

Anybody know what the spec is or where I could find it?

Thanks

Timing Cover Needed for 22RE

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:58 am

My 94 22RE holed a piston due to a broken piston
ring which was probably caused by broken tensioner/guide
that allowed the timing chain to take chucks of metal out
of the cover thus loading the oil pan with various sized chucks
of aluminum. Well, live and learn. D.O.A. metal guides
are going in. I now need a serviceable cover.
Does anybody know if anyone sells an aftermarket cover?
Or does someone have a cover in good condition that might
be for sale??

I have seen references to the timing chain tensioner guide on this NG.
What is mine made out of?
Is a metal guide an aftermarket product?
Do I need one?
The motor has over 150K on it.

thanks

Manual vs. Auto locking hubs

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:30 am

I currently have AISIN manual locking hubs in my 87 toyota X- cab.  The only
problem is….ITS TOO ANNYOING TO GET OUT AND LOCK THEM !!!

Call me lazy :)

I was wondering about the pro’s/ con’s of auto locking hubs…and for that
matter if they can even be put on, and what sort of hubs i should buy,
installation tips, experiences…etc, etc

Any help greatly appreciated

Idle speed screw moving on it's own.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:30 am

89 22 RE 4 Runner, 160K.  My idle speed screw is moving on it’s own.  It is
real "loose" and very easy to turn.  I can easily turn it by hand.  It has
only started doing it recently and I have had the truck for about a year and
a half.  Anybody ever seen this or have any solutions (other than replacing
the whole throttle unit or whatever is involved)?  I was thinking of backing
ou the screw and squirting in some RTV silicone, or maybe trying "hela"
coil.  I am not real crazy about backing the screw all the way out, although
I guess I’m positive I could get it back to where it needs to be, and I have
never used "hela" coil before.  It first move on it’s own after the
beginning of an extremely muddy hunting season for Texas but I am sure it is
just the rough roads that cause it to move.  It is also the truck’s second
hunting season so I don’t understand why it didn’t do it before.  I am
almost positive it is actually doing it in the city too but I have not
checked it in a few days.  Does seem to be idling low again today which I
mostly notice when shifting, engagement of the clutch seems rougher and a
lot smoother when "properly" adjusted.  As I have no tach how important is
it to have the rpm set correctly?  i.e. will I damage my engine if it is not
correctly adjusted to rpm’s and what about the other adjustment on the
"intake/fuel injection manifold", is that real important.  I am talking
about the plastic spring loaded deal.  I would guess that the screw might
adjust air (throttle body) and the plastic deal adjusts fuel or maybe
vacuum.
Thanks ahead for any advice!
Happy Holidays
Colin
