anyone have any experience using/installing the Performance oil filter
relocation kit? seems like a good way to avoid having to remove the skid
plate and all the mess of removing the oil filter in its present location…

False Temp Reading & Heater Switch……..

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:43 pm

On my bare-bones factory ’93 P/U with a 22R, it seems that when I turn
on the heater on it causes the engine temp. gauge to red-line SUDDENLY.
When I turn it off the heater, and the needle swings back to normal, but
will
have an erratic, quick movements between normal and red-line.

Turning the engine and the heater off, then restarting USUALLY resets
the problem.

If the heater switch is kept off, the temp gauge works properly.

The truck is not overheating and the thermostat is working.

Would a sensor fail with these characteristics?
Anyone know the relation between the sensor and the heater switch?

TIA

Different Tires

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:43 pm

My 2001 Tacoma and I just hit the big 5,000 mile mark yesterday!  Hope
to hit 500,000 someday!  :-)

I was wondering what others thought of this:

I have the 2001 Tacoma V6 Dble Cab with the TRD package.  The tires
are a little rough and gas consuming for my likeing.  I was wonder if
anyone thought it wouls be a good idea to buy the same size tires but
with a little less tred for the non-winter months.  I know I’ll need
those tires for the winter months due to snow and the like, but I
don’t think I’ll need them during the other months.  What I would do
is buy rims and tires so that I could switch the tires and rims to the
other set when not in use.

Would this save wear and tear on the treddy tires and save gas?
Does anyone think this is a good idea?
Is anyone saying "Oh great!  Another new truck owner who doesn’t know
what they are talking about!" ?  The answer is yes, this is my first
truck!

Thanks

Bad Rotors

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:41 pm

i reported earlier on this list a issue with my 96′ 4runner brake pedal
pulsing. i suspected the rotors and i now just swapped them out, brake pads
too. pulsing is gone.

truck only has 40k miles on it. the old brake pads were still at 97% of
original thickness!!

i suspect that this issue arises from the rotors themselves not being of
uniform density. constant heat cycles make them warp over time.

the old set makes for a good brake project. i’ll get them cut then do some
minor cross drilling so when the truck hits 80k miles i have a backup set to
put in.

has anyone else gone 40k+ miles without the need to cut the OEM rotors?
anyone using aftermarket rotors that have gone 40k+ miles without the need
to be cut ?

"86 4×4 AT-stick conversion"

According to Wolfgang, converting the Auto trans. to 5-speed is an option.
What parts (not a complete list) and converters are needed.  What are good
sources for such parts  and what could I expect to pay for parts

Tundra, feels like a bump at stop sometimes?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:41 pm

My father’s Tundra sometimes feels like its rear ended while at a
stoplight sometimes….it’s a slight bump and then everything is fine.

Anyone know what causes this…it’s a 2WD automatic.

Thanks

oscillating idle on 2002 RAV4

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:28 pm

I bought a 2002 RAV4 (4×4, 5 speed) about a month and a half ago.  When
I first start it up (after it’s been sitting a while, say overnight or
all day at work), as long as I just sit there, it will idle at a steady
RPM.  But I’ll then back out of my parking spot just a few feet, and
then after that the engine idle will start oscillating between about
1800 and 2200 rpm.  (If I only rev it up before backing up, the idle
will remain constant – the oscillation only seems to only happen after I
actually move.)  This makes driving a bit jerky to drive in first gear
(for example, when I’m driving through my parking garage), but after a
bit of driving (a mile or two?), it will settle down.

Is this normal?

Thanks.
