Tacoma Handling Revisited

Here is a little different take on what sounds like a familiar
problem. For two weeks I have owned a new 2002 Tacoma Xtracab 4WD
(non-TRD) with P265/70R16 Dunlop AT21 Grandtrek tires.

The reason this is a bit different than other posts I’ve read is that
what I do not have is the high-speed shimmy\shakes, or excessive roll
in turns. Instead, what I do have is an annoying\highly
noticeable\somewhat unsettling shimmy when I hit bumps\pot
holes\railroad tracks at pretty much any speed.

Question: Do I now have:

   a.   A pickup truck – get used to it?
   b.   Lousy tires – get rid of them or get used to it?
   c.   Bad shocks – get rid of them or get used to it?
   d.   Bad springs – get rid of them or get used to it?
   e.   A need for sway bars?
   f.   Some other problem that Toyota should be fixing?
   g.   Some of the above?
   h.   All of the above?

Thanks for any assistance on this.

High Idling problem '86 4 runner

I have a 1986 toyota 4′runner and got a brand new engine and radiator put in
3 years ago and ever since I have had it put in I have had problems with
high idling after taking the clutch out of gear into neutral. I recently had
a new cat converter put on and had the head gasket replaced and I told the
guy about my problem and he said ‘I’ll adjust the idling’ and I knew nothing
would change. This happens 1/4 of the time I drive. So I will be in any gear
and when I come to a stop and take the clutch out of gear to come to a
complete stop the engine revs up to abour 2400 rpms, and I push on the gas
pedal to bring it back down to 1800, it’s ANNOYING! Could this be a problem
with the clutch or the engine? The idling has been adjusted before but no
help. Anyone? Anybody know a good website to ask this question?

Never replaced a control arm/bushing on a truck yet, I’d suspect disc

2003 4Runner coming in March?

Does anybody have any info on this new truck?  My dealer says not to buy a
4runner now, but to wait until March- supposedly a complete new body style
change is coming, titled as a 2003 model, V6 or V8, and much larger in all
dimensions, specifically interior.  Supposedly as big or bigger than a
Highlander.  Also at the same price or cheaper- but I’ll believe that when I
see it.

Has anyone else heard anything?

Goodyear ATS opinions wanted

I’m replacing some Goodyear GSA tires (I liked these very much) but my
size (31×10.5) is no longer available and I’m looking for the best
replacement.  Has anyone tried the Goodyear ATS model and if so what did
you think?  I’ll look at other brands/models if you have suggestions.
These are for a Toyota Tacoma 4×4.

Thanks!!

Matt

22R/22RE engine with a 5 sp tranny

Hello –

This is a continuation of my "Please help a Toy newbie" thread…

The 22R/22RE engines – what year model trucks were they used in ?
I am assuming "E" is for maybe electronic ignition ?
Would the E series require less maintenance ?
Are these engines fuel injected ?

And finally, are there different versions in the 5-speed tranny that I
should aware of ?

Thanks,

Alan

2001 Tundra Wiring Problem

On the way home this evening I turned right at one point and noticed
that the interior lights (floor & doors) came on.  I just went out and
confirmed that it does not do it turning left, only right and the
vehicle must be moving.  They also will come on momentarily if I go
over a more than casual bump.

It doesn’t matter if the lights are on or off.

This sounds like a loose wire somewhere.  Has anyone else had
a similar problem and is there a cure without taking it back to the
dealership?

Thanks from the DarkSide
