Q for Rick

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:59 am

Rick,

How’s your ’98 working lately?  Mine’s still doing good.  I tried to
play my case with Toyota about replacing my ’98 TRD flares that were
showing white through them due to flying road debris from my tires,
but they wrote me a nice PFO letter.  Oh well.

I now have a set of 2001 all-plastic set, save for the passenger side
front one.  Toyotaguys.com says they can get me one for 131 USD +
shipping!  For one!

Can your dealer do any better than this, or does it sound about right?
If not, do you have any good leads on Toyota wreckers (besides TAP in
Cali, already checked with them and they have nothing).

Next Q:  Interference engines, the 2.7 and the 3.4…..which one is an
interference engine?  I was under the impression that the 2.7 was an
interference and the 3.4 was not, any input?

Thanks,

-Rob

Trouble starting '97 4Runner Limited

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:59 am

Today out of the blue my 4Runner decided it didn’t want to start (71000
miles). I got in, turned the key and just heard a click. The lights came on,
the doors locked automatically, but the engine wouldn’t turn over. I tried a
couple times and it did the same thing. Then I took the key out and started
to get out and decided to try one more time and it started right up like
normal. It started fine the rest of the day (about 10 times) until the
evening after it sat for about 4 hours. It did the same thing twice, then
started up like normal. I thought maybe it was the battery going so I bought
and installed a new one, but it did it again afterward. Just wondering if
anyone has heard of something like this and what the potential problem could
be. Thanks for any help you can give.

Chevy V8 + Turbo 400 Conversion in 86 Toyota 2WD Hilux tray (Australia)

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:59 am

Hi everyone,

I live in Australia and I have a 1986 Toyota 2WD Hilux tray with 2.4 Litre
diesel / Factory auto.
I think they call them something else in the USA, Tacoma or something ?

The original Diesel is dead from what they mostly die of in Australia
(Cracked head).

I have a 327 Chev/Turbo 400 in the shed that I want to put in instead of the
diesel.

There are other conversion in Australia available like –

253 & 308 Holden V8 (GM)
Holden 3.8L V6 (Buick 3.8L V6)

BUT I WANT A CHEVY!!

No one has seemed to have down a Chev/Turbo 400 into a 2WD before.
Chev is very common in 4X4 model here.  They tell me the floor is different
between 4X2 and 4X4 ?

Are there any people out there who have done this conversion ?
Do I need to massage (Nip & tuck) the floor to clear the GM auto ?

Is the Factory Diff OK even if it is about 4.10 Ratio ? or would ford 9" be
better ? Same stud pattern I think ?

T100 Temperature Gauge Question

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:58 am

I have a ’96 T-100, 5 speed, two-wheel drive, with the 3.4 v6 engine.  The
temperature gauge acts erratic.  I’ll try to describe it – if the gauge was
marked off from 1 to 10, with 1 being cold, once the engine reaches its
normal range, around 5, the gauge will jump between 3 and 5.  I asked my
mechanic and he said had not seen this.  Any ideas?  Thanks for any help.

REVTEK lift ?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:57 am

Does anyone out there have any pros and cons about the REVTEK lift for the
Tacomas ? This style of lift increases the angle of the front CV drive
shafts which was a problem on the older trucks when people would crank on
the torsion bars .

Thanks

4runner antennae

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:56 am

The antennae on my 1997 4runner stopped going up and down — it makes a
whirring noise when trying to go down and a clanking noise when trying to go
up.  What could be wrong?  Will I have to remove the fender to get to it?

Fuel addative question

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:43 pm

A guy in my club swears by this stuff called 44k.  I have never been to big on
addatives, but was wondering if anyone ever heard of it or used it.  Says its
supposed to clean out injectors.  Any opinions?
