Any suggestions for a good do it yourself bug deflector kit? With spring
coming, I’m having a hard time seeing through the 75 layers of bugs on my
windshield.

Bug deflector
ReplacingClutch_Hard?
Yeah…I bought a ’93 Toyota P.U. last year- very barebones, gets
unbelievable mileage. I finally have something to work on- pretty sure it
needs a new clutch- accelerates w/o proportionate
forward motion. How hard is this to do? Surely it’s not one of those
‘everything-is-pressed-on-
you-need-an-arbor-press-for-this’ deals, right?
How Long For Motor Oil/Filters
some interesting info to be found on the net. this site says that the oil
filter gasket is what determines your change interval.
***************
The base gasket is therefore the MOST important part of the "spin-on" oil
filter design.
The gasket will with time, more than with mileage, either harden or
soften, in either case the gasket tension that holds the filter to the
engine is relieved. Engine vibration will "unscrew" the filter, and ALL the
oil will be lost as indicated above.
The quality and material of the base gasket is what determines for how
long a filter should be used.
The low cost oil filters that cost few dollars and are used by quick oil
change outfits and sold in discount stores definitely should not be used for
more than the usual recommendation of 3-month / 3,000-mile interval
irrespective of what oil do you use.
More premium or OEM oil filters that cost much more can be utilized
safely for the maximum oil filter change interval that is specified by the
OEM.
Only a specialty oil filters like SynLubeT MicroGlassT Long Life Oil
Filters are specially engineered to be used for interval ranging from 2
years to 5 years without change. The special Viton base gasket that is used
costs by itself much more than typical bargain spin on oil filter.
MDT Tech, please help me!
I have been cursed by a maddening metallic squeal from under the
truck. (99 Taco 2WD – 3.4) Here are the symptoms:
1. Randomly occurs, happens when cold or warm
2. Noise does not change when brakes are applied or the truck is put
into nuetral
3. The noise gets louder when the throttle is released, quieter when
throttle is applied
I had one Toyota tech email me and say he replaced the muffler on
several Tacos with same problem and it fixed it, however the noise
definitely sounds like it is drive shaft related. You can tell the
noise is from something spinning. I am thinking that it changes with
throttle because the additional torque shifts whatever is making the
noise.
I noticed various grease fittings on the drive shaft, are these
supposed to be regreased on a regular basis? I am at the end of my
rope. I took it to the dealer once and they said they couldn’t
reproduce the noise. I am at 35k miles so I want to get this nailed
down before the bumper to bumper expires.
I have received 3 or 4 emails from other 99-2K Taco owners complaining
of the same noise so I know it isn’t just me. Any ideas would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
K&N AirCharger
Has anyone experienced the difference made by replacing the Stock Air
Intake system with the K&N Off-Road Air Charger? It’s not Immisions Legal
but They say it adds 26hp. Not bad bot 200 bucks or whatever the kit
costs.
Need one 2001+ right front fender flare!
For a Tacoma, unpainted.
Can anybody help me out?? Has anybody seen one at a local scrapyard
or for that matter – does anybody have any good links to any wreckers
that have a good Toyota inventory??? (Already tried TAP)
Any help is appreciated!

starter problems on V-6 89 4-runner
just wondering if the starter silanoid (not sure if that is the right
spelling) is on the outside or in the starter itself on a 89 4-runner V-6

replacing the bed Q
On 1980′s era pickup truck (Toyota), how are the truck rear fender
panels attatched ?
I’ve come across mechanically excellent used trucks with rust in this
area.
How easy is it to remove and replace these panels ?
Are they welded or bolted on ?
The rust seems to develop at what appears to be seam areas and then
spreads.
Thanks,
Alan

2001 Tacoma w/rattle in windshield
We’ve recently purchased a 2001 Tacoma 4×4 Double Cab and love it – except
for one thing. Apparently the dash rattles/vibrates against the windshield.
This is very loud and can be heard over the stereo (unless turned up too
loud for our comfort). The dealer is trying to tell me that all new Tacomas
do that and there is no fixing it. I’ve taken it in 5 times now and they’ve
been able to get rid of the rattle temporarily two of the last 3 times.
This is the 3rd new Tacoma we’ve owned in the last 5 years and we’ve never
had a rattle anywhere on the others (’97 Xtra Cab & ’99 Xtra Cab). Am I
being picky or does this sound like a legitimate gripe?
They tell me the warranty on ‘rattles’ expires @ 12K miles. From what I
understand about the lemon law (non ocrrectable defect covered by the
manufacturer’s express warranty; less than 1 year old; driven less than 12K
miles; in for service/repair 4 or more times; must substantially impair use,
market value or safety – I feel it affects the market value) we could demand
a new truck, but are we going to see the same thing with others as well?
We live in Oregon and this started before we went off-road.
Any thoughts, support or advice is much appreciated.
Thanks
Todd
