Highlander Sound System

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:01 am

Does anyone know where to get technical info on the JBL premium sound
system in the ’02 Highlander Limited?  I am interested in knowing the
number and location of  amp(s),  wattage, frequency response, speaker
& FM tuner specs, etc.

Thanks!

Storage in bed of Tacoma

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:01 am

I’ve got a 1 week old Tacoma, I’m in the midst of figuring out how to store
the not overly large amount of crap I used to keep in the trunk of my
Taurus. Caps are out of the question – I just don’t like them. I’m
considering metal boxes, like this:

….or hard tonneau covers. I’m interested in any comments based on direct
experience (good or bad) with specific brands of hard covers. Wondering
about watertightness, rattling, and how much certain ones might mar the
finish via their attachment methods.

My main storage concerns are things like the washbasin full of car fluids
that are always with me, the bundle of fishing rags, poles, tackle boxes,
and the times I need to ditch a briefcase w/laptop when I run into the
supermarket on the way home from work.

Driveline Thump

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:00 am

Have a ’99 Tacoma with 67K on it. Over the last month or so it has developed a very noticeable fall in the driveline when releasing pressure on the brakes after anything other than a smooth slow stop. The auto tranny lever and the xfer case lever move almost an inch, one forward and one backwards. I suspected the mount at the rear of the tranny on the crossmember but there appears to be no visible signs of failure. Have a hard time thinking the 4 cyl would break an engine mount.

Anyone had similar problems or have some insight before I take it to the dealer and do the "find what’s wrong with it" thing?

Thanks,
Phill

HELP: 89 4×4 engine problems

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:00 am

I have a 89 Toyota 4×4 extnd cab p/u with a 22RE EFI 4 cylinder engine in
it. I recently (1 year ago( had engine work done, and the mechanice put a
rebuilt cylinder head in it, and reseated the valves. I recently put a new
clutch in, and replaced the radiator, and all hoses. I was driving the truck
one day, and I notied the temperature gauge was pegged all the way to HOT,
and I was only 3 blocks from my house. When i got it off, and cooled down, I
put more anit freeze in, and when I checked my oil, the fluid was half way
up the stick. I am afraid I have a cracked head or engine block. How can I
easily check to see which it is?

Online Source for Steering Shaft Spacer

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:31 am

I have an ’89 Toyota 4WD Truck (22RE) with a 3" body lift (done by the
previous owner). Whoever did the lift, extended the lower steering shaft by
cutting it in two and welding a section of steel rod in the gap. The problem
is that they did a lousy job: the shaft is not concentric and (I believe)
the added section is too short (because there is only about 1/2" of shaft
clamped in the splined coupler under the dash).

I understand there are spacers made for this purpose. I want to replace my
lower steering shaft with a "new" (used) one from a wrecking yard and add a
spacer. Can anyone point me to some online sources for these spacers? Also
can someone *without a body lift* tell me how much of the shaft should
extend into the splined clamp? I’d like to know what the factory "specs" are
for this coupling.

Thanks,
Michael

Tacoma Clock Replacement

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:30 am

Just got a 2002 Tacoma and love it – except for that cheap looking LED
clock. Luckily it’s almost completely hidden by the steering wheel.

Has anyone come up with a better looking replacement or a better use for
that dash cut out?

What's an '84 X-tra Cab, 4×2, SR-5 worth?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:29 am

I’m looking to sell my ’84 Truck and wonder what it’s worth.  It’s got 215K
miles on it but seems to be very sound mechanically.  New clutch, differential
pinion bearing and rear wheel bearings at about 150K. Also had all the synchros
and bearings replaced in the transmission (5-speed manual) about the same time.
New brakes all around at 200K.  Paint’s not too hot anymore but other than
that it’s in decent shape.  Any input appreciated.
