'99 Toyota 4Runner SRV5 manual 4×4 mode problem

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:22 pm

I have a 1999 Toyota 4Runner SRV5 model with 5 speed manual and have a
problem when I make a slow tight turn in the 4 wheel drive mode. The truck
hesitates in the turn and feels as though the front gears seizes. Going into
the turn with 2,500 rpms (normal driving rpms) would stall or stop the
truck. It requires 3,500 to 4,000+ rpms to move it in the turn. When the 4
wheel drive is off, the truck works perfectly.

I took it into a couple of Toyota dealerships and they all say the same
thing — its normal. I find it hard to believe that Toyota would sell an SUV
4×4 truck that works in 4×4 only when driving on straight roads.

Is this normal for 4Runner?

FJ40 Smog -vs- No Smog

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:22 pm

FJ40 Guys,

I’ve got a 1975 FJ40 with a  2F Engine.  It was a Lake Tahoe Car it’s whole
life until I bought it. The previous owner disabled a lot of the smog
control stuff; i.e. he cut off the erg valve with a torch and welded it
shut, took hoses off the smog pump and put a Webber carb (32mm) on it.  I’m
in the Navy with my residence in Alaska so all my vehicles are licensed in
Alaska.   What I want to know is this; do these 2f engines run better with
or without all the smog stuff on them?  I’ve pretty much collected most of
the smog parts and although I’m only a shadetree mechanic but I’m sure I
could put all the stuff back on.  My only question is; should I?  Would I
gain anything by having it all back on or should I just strip it all off and
plug the holes?  By the way does anybody have any opinions about the Webber
Carb vs the Aisen OE Carb?

Thanks for your thoughts.

By the way, I’m never gonna sell it.

Help! 22RE engine problem

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:21 pm

1985 4X4 EFI.  The engine has a strong surge in the range of 1500-2700
rpm.  Simply won’t idle at a stable speed in that range.  I have
checked most of the obvious things–air vane box, throttle position
sensor, EGR, and so on.  I can’t pin down the problem.  Any
suggestions?  Won’t pass state inspection because there is an
emissions test ate 2500.

Also, checking the ignition timing calls for shorting a "T" connector,
but none of my books–including the factory shop manual, are telling
me where or what that is.  Can anyone advise?

Thanks!

Oscillating idle source?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:21 pm

My 95.5 tacoma (3rzfe(?) 2.7L 4) has an intermittant idle problem.  On
occasion, the idle will oscilate: rah, rah, rah, nearly stalling each
time the revs drop.  Drive a few minutes more, and it usually clears
up.  Doesn’t seem to occur when cold, and seems more likely after long
periods of running.  I’ve changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and
air filter.  Haven’t done the fuel filter, yet. (why did they have to
put it THERE?)

Also, does anyone else notice a hiccup when gradually lifting off the
throttle after hard acceleration?

Thanks,

  Steve

4 runner brake light comes on when accelerating

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:21 pm

I have a 1999 4Runner.  Recently the emergency brake light started
coming on (in the dash) when I accelerate the vehicle.  There seems to
be no negative affect, but it is curious.  Maybe something is loose?
Is there an easy way to access the connections to the dash to check?

Thanks, bizz

Anyone have experience installing this lift?  Just curious considering
purchase to clear 33s, just curious if there is any goofy fab work
involved with the lift or if it’s it pretty straight forward

Tires for 2001 Sequoia?

What tires do you recommend for the Toyota Sequoia 2001?  I am looking at
Michelin LTX and Pirrelli Scorpions.

Here in Illinois thats what the sticker is on a 2003 4-Runner Limited  with
the Navigation system. Anyone who has seen the new Truck give your opinion
please.

Thanks, Bob
