My old truck needs paint

I moved to a coastal area and the salt air is making little rust spots on my
1981 Toy 4×4 truck.
It is a beige/tan color.

A new paint job is coming I think. Anyone know where a good place in the San
Diego area is?

What do I need to do to stop the rust in the meantime? I was thinking of a
dermal tool with a sanding attachment. These are small spot rust but they
are starting to show all over.
Is there a step-by-step process for repainting spots after I get them to
bare metal? Do I need to condition the metal, prime, and then paint? Online
tips?

Anyway thanks for any tips and I will keep looking online for touch-up help.

'95 3.0 liter Fuel Filter Replacement

I am going to replace my fuel filter on my Runner.  The Chilton’s manual
says I need new gaskets, dealer says that I don’t.

Anyone tell if I do or don’t?

Thanks, Tim

3.4L Blue smoke?

My 2000 3.4L 4Runner blew out a puff of light blue smoke on start up today
and then very lightly for about 30 seconds.  This is the very first time
this has ever happened.  I’ve had it since new and it’s got just short of
60K miles on it.  I’ve never had any issues my truck and it runs flawlessly.
I’ll start it again tomorrow after it has sat all night and see if it does
it again.  I’m getting ready to do the 60K mile maintenance and plan on
replacing the platinum pugs, fuel filter, brake pads, flushing the radiator
and I’ll probably replace the diff and tranny/x-fer case fluids with
synthetic.  Does anyone know what the possible causes of this might be?

4runner aftermarket items?

Anyone have any good sites that they have ordered aftermarket parts from?

I know it’s a long shot, but I’m trying to find a site that would have
externally mounted tachometeres and thermostats and such.  Preferably one of
those combo-type deals that runs up the side of the door frame.

Sorry if that doesn’t make sense, but I am having a hard time describing
what I am looking for.  Even if you don’t know what I’m talking about just
any general links to some sites with 4runner parts would be nice.

And yes I have already looked for them on my own and checked google.  I
never have much luck finding what I need by myself.

Thanks again everyone,
-Keith

Injector Problem?

I have a 94 4Runner 3.0 that I bought used but with all service records, and
has been dealer maintained. 130k. It runs well, except it seems to have a
stagger in smooth, slow acceleration.
If I boot it, it runs great, and seems to smooth out. Fuel mileage is
decent, 20 Hwy, 17 City.
If I hold idle at 1500, it will stagger around from 1300-1550 or so.
Any recomendations for first things to try? Dealer tried vacuum hoses and
suggested Techron fuel injection cleaner for a couple of tanks, no luck.

Thanks.

Should I buy a Toyota?

I currently have a Chev S-10, 2003. Material has made it past the fuel
filters and ruined my injectors. I’m suing and getting ready to shop for a
different brand but want to know: Why did my fuel filter fail and would the
same thing happen with a Toyota? Isn’t the whole reason for having a fuel
filter to prevent "stuff" from getting past to the injectors, at least stuff
big enough to clog the injectors??? Help please, I know nothing about
mechanics but I’m a logical person who believes the filter should keep my
truck from being ruined! Thanks!

Need speedometer gear

I’m replacing my 4.11 rear-end gear with a 4.88.

The Toyota dealer said Toyota does not have a speedometer gear so I need to
find something somewhere.

I called United Speedometer and they had nothing.

Thanks for any help,

Dennis

4×4 not kicking in right

Hi all,
I have an 88 V6 5 speed 1/2 ton pickup that isn’t engaging the front
4×4 right. A few months ago, it would only go into 4×4 if I came to a
complete stop. Now it won’t do it at all, even though the little light
on the dash goes on when I try to engage it. The lockouts turn freely &
feel like they’re ‘clicking’ into place. It was stored for a few months
this winter, if that helps.

Any ideas? Grease something, give it a good whack with a BFH?

Thanks,
 - Jeff G
