I replaced the original oxygen sensor (Toyota part # 89465-19265) on
my 1985 4-Runner,22R-E,W56 with an NGK exact fit (NGK part # 24105)
and since then after the engine has reached operating temperature and
closed loop mode (thermostat opens) the idle speed begins to drop from
750 RPM down to 550 RPM (I think).
Do I need a timing light to adjust the idle speed screw located on the
front of the throttle body after the engine has reached closed loop?if
not do I still need to short the check engine/timing connector to
perform the adjustment?.
By the way I don’t have a timing light if I need one,so is there
someone in Dartmouth/Halifax,Nova Scotia that has one that can adjust
my timing?.Thanks.

tacoma bedliner
Hi,
What do you taco owners do for a bedliner?
I like the idea of the spray-on’s, but I’m rough on the side rails of
the bed. I’m concerned about over-the-rail bedliners ’cause they seem
to rub thru the paint. Any win-win alternatives??

Engine Chokes in Rain
94 Toyota Extended Cab 22RE engine, 4 speed, 150K.
I got caught in a down poor a few months back and drove through a deep pool
of water.
The engine idled rough and stalled out. I was able to start the engine
after many attempts
and drove home on a rough, sputtering engine. Since that time, the engine
"chokes" when
the rain comes down hard and feels like there is a loss of power and just
about to stall out
if I don’t let up on the gas..
Any ideas what I should check?
increase cell phone signal?
Really do not know were to go for help on this, thought I would try here,
there seems to be some pretty sharp minds in here.
Okay I have a Nokia digital/analog phone mounted in a hands free kit with an
external antenna mounted on my back window of my Tacoma.
I check with various of local "experts" and they said that the tint does
impede the antenna in any way. Which I agree with this because when the
phone is not in the cradle I will have four bars showing on the signal meter
on the phone when I put the phone into the cradle the signal meter goes to
five bars. Okay so I know my external antenna works a little. Is the a way I
can amplify the signal. I have heard of a product called a cb booster but I
do not think that product will apply.
I have also seen where someone hooked a 50 watt car stereo amplifier to the
cell phone but that was on a older analog only bag phone.
I know someone has gone way into BFE and went to use their cell phone and
thought you know I will…… to fix this problem
02 Tacoma: Anti-sway device?
I’ve got an ’02 Tacoma with TRD package. The manual says I should have an
anti-sway device if towing over 2000 pounds (although the towing weight
limit is 3500). Anyone know if this truck already has an anti-sway device?
It doesn’t have any noticeable lateral shimmy when I’m towing my 1000 lb
boat/trailer. But, a friend is asking for help towing a U-Haul trailer, and
I’ll be a little over the 2000 lbs mentioned in the manual, by the time
we’re done loading the thing.

Bouncing speedo – 96 Taco
I recently purchased a 96 4×4 V6 Taco that needs a little TLC to come up to
my standards
One of the issues with this truck is that the cruise
doesn’t hold the speed properly. I think it’s directly related to the fact
that the speedometer slightly wobbles most of the time a gives a good bounce
every once in a while. I’ve pulled the codes per Chilton’s and it came up
with "Actual speed dropped 10 mph below target" which points back to the
bouncing speedo.
My questions are:
a) Is it common for the speedometer cables to need replacing after 145k
miles?
b) Does the tranny use an externally replaceable gear to drive the speedo
cable? (I’m assuming the speedo cable is driven off the output shaft of the
tranny.)
c) Is there any way to test out any of the components here (gauge cluster w/
speed sensor, speedo cable, cruise ECM).
Thanks,

Force required to spin ront wheel?
I have a 96 4×4 V6 Taco with Auto hubs. It has ~145k miles on it and the
previous owner never did anything maintenance wise other than change the
motor oil. I’m in the process of fixing up a few things and one is a
vibration/noise coming from the front drive train. I’ve already replaced
all the drive train fluids and rebalanced and rotated the fairly new tires.
Although the shimmying has gone away, there is still a speed related hum
coming from up front. I think it’s more noise than what can be attributed
to the basically stock tires and the fact that I only hear it from the
front, even after rotating, keeps me thinking it from the front drive train.
During my investigation I jacked up the front tires and gave tried to give
them a wiggle. They don’t have any side ways wobble but I noted that they
were pretty tuff to turn. The only noise I could hear is from the hub area.
I could identify some of it as simple brake pad/rotor drag but I don’t think
that’s all of it. How hard is it to replace the wheel bearings? Any
gotchas to look out for? Any other things to rule out for this noise before
I dig into the bearings?
Thanks,

Tacoma Dual Exhaust
Hi Everybody,
I’m thinking about putting on dual exhaust on my 01 Tacoma 4×4.- 4cyl and
I’d like your input on this project. First off I’m going to start the new
exhaust system from behind the converter due to our strict EPA montoioring
system in Hamilton County. I understand it’s not going to sound like a V8,
but I like the look of the dual exhaust.
Is this going to harm my perforance due to less back pressure?
What are the positives & negatives factors of installing this type of
exhaust system on a Tacoma?
Thanks for your help!!
