2003 4Runner Recall

I recently purchased the 2003 4Runner Sport Edition 4×4 V8 and was
completely in love with my truck until I was on my way to Yosemite
with trailer in tote and ALL of a sudden, my Dash board Check Engine
light comes on along with the VXC Trac Contol OFF light… At the same
time, my truck started slowing down.
I had no acceleration but managed to get my truck and trailer off the
freeway in time.

Turns out, Toyota has recalled their Throttle body assmebly….
I took it to the dealer one month before the break down, but at the
time, was told mine was fine. I didn’t think anything of it until I
was stranded a couple hundred miles away from home and Yosemite!!!!
Bottomline, take my advice-
Take it to your nearest Dealer- its covered under the warranty, get
your throttle body assembly replaced, even if they say yours is fine.
DON’T GET STRANDED.

Other than that, I love my new 4Runner.

Get it replaced, EVEN if they tell you its fine.

Holley Carby noise

I have just installed a Holley 350 carbie (61 main jets, 8.5 power valve) to
my 1989 3F petrol Toyota Landcruiser to try and improve economy more than
power.
I have a few issues, when the engine has reached operating temperature there
is a whistle from the carbie which I believe is coming from the butterfly’s
as soon as some load is applied to the engine it goes away. When it is cold
there is no noise at all. Any ideas on how to fix this??
The economy is still no better than the old carbie, any suggestions on what
I can do to improve this, i.e. jet sizes, power valve size etc etc.

Toyota Sienna – Back Door

Could someone please tell me if it’s possible to open the back door
without using the latch.  The latch broke and now I want to replace
it. The only problem is my door is closed and I am not sure how to
open it.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

replacing timing belt, water pump, seals on '90 3.0L 4Runner

Ok, my water pump is leaking pretty good and I guess it’s time I bit
the bullet and replaced it.  Hoping folks could offer some great tips.
I’ve looked for pages that detail the process and found some good
info but all of it was for the 3.4L engine.  Probably pretty close to
my 1990 3.0L but I figured I would ask just in case there were some
differences.

Here’s what I plan to replace while I’m in there… drive belts,
timing belt, idler(s), thermostat, water hoses, water pump, front
crank seal, cam seals.

Some questions for folks that have done this…

1.      Is there a rebuild kit for the water pump or do I have to
completely replace it?
2.      Are there any online instructions for the 3.0L timing belt?
3.      What special tools are recommended to replace the timing belt?
4.      Is there a "sure" way to keep things aligned so I don’t get the
timing off?
5.      Are any special tools needed for the crank and cam seals and are
they difficult to replace?
6.      I’ve heard of a "cleaner" for the coolant system- is this
recommended?
7.      I’ve heard of a "conditioner" for the coolant system- is this
recommended?
8.      Roughly how long should I expect to take to do all this (assuming
I’m of average mechanical ability)?
9.      And of course where is the cheapest place to order all these
things?

SEQUIOA 2WD screeching sound

I have a 2002 TOYOTA SEQUIOA 2WD. It has about 14k on it.
The problem with it is whenever I take a U RURN or a fast turn the
tyres make a
screeching sound. Is it normal with SUVs? or is it something to do
with the tyres? I have this problem since day one.
Thanks

ALLDATA experience

Hello,

Does anybody know if the 2003 Toyotas are covered at the ALLDATA site
(Sienna and Tundra)?  I am most interested in knowing what TSBs may be out
on these two vehicles.

Thanks,

RG
