mk1 2.4 4×4 Toyota Hi-Lux project help (parts and advice)

Hi, im new to the group and i need some help becuase i am beginning to
renovate a 2.4 litre mk1 toyota hi-lux and hopefully also soup it up.

I’m having trouble finding cosmetic/body kits and "performance parts" not
just stock replacement
parts, since im going to use this for road+offroading im going to use the
stock 2.4 litre unit since ive been told its better, expense isnt really an
issue since
this is a long term project that im willing to put the time, effort, and of
course cash into, since i have my rather pants 1.4 escort for day to day
journeys i can take it off the road for quite some time, so if anyone could
please point me in the direction of:

Good 4×4 magazines available in the UK
Good info websites for hi-lux’s and after market parts based in either the
USA or UK

Anything you may think would be of any use to me!

Thanks very much for any and all info you can take the time to provide, its
really appreciated!

22R Timing Chain Survey — Mileage?

I would like to survey everybody with 22R (22RE,etc) to see the mileage
that people got on their timing chains before changing.

Also to see if anybody’s chain started rubbing the timing chain cover.

I will start off with the survey.

Thanks,
Nick

84 Toyota 4×4   single row chain
Orginal chain changed at 120,000 … no rubbing
second chain still on at 240,000 … no rubbing yet and still going!

22R: Oil Leak at Fuel Pump Mounting Flange

About three years ago I had the original (1988) fuel pump replaced
because it had developed an leak. A month ago the aftermarket
replacement developed a gas leak so I replaced it with another
aftermarket unit. I used Permatex (the black liquid) on the gaskets when
I changed it on Saturday afternoon and didn’t drive until I went to work
on Monday. I checked the oil or Thursday and it was still OK, but there
was oil all over the side of the timing cover and block under the fuel
pump. I felt under the flange and came away with oil on my fingers. The
following I got a pair of Fel-Pro gaskets and some Permatex Blue RTV
gasket maker (it uses two gaskets as the fuel pump requires the use of a
plastic spacer in this application). I cleaned the flanges and sprayed
them plus the spacer with carb cleaner to remove any trace of oil. I
then applied the RTV per instructions and reinstalled the pump. Again,
this was on Saturday afternoon and I didn’t drive it until Monday.

Bottom line, it still drools oil down the side of the engine. It’s still
coming from the flange area.

Yes, the plastic spacer and gaskets are installed correctly… :>))

It isn’t a disaster, but it’s going to have to come off again. I assume
it has something to do with four gasket surfaces to contend with.

I’m wondering if getting an OEM pump that (hopefully) doesn’t require
the spacer is my only solution, although when the garage replaced it
three years ago, everything was bone dry, until yours truly got into the
act…

Re: Tacoma Right Turn Signal on Crack

Something is awry with this circuit. Try replacing the right bulb with the
left known good one to see if it’s just the bulb.

Toolbox for 2001 Double Cab

I am looking for recommendations for a toolbox to mount in the back of my
DC.  I currently have one that just sits on the floor of the bed.  With the
height of the Tacoma, I can’t reach into it and reach the bottom, so I want
one that mounts to the rails.  I don’t want a big one; just a place to keep
a few odds and ends in (jumper cables, bungee cords, rope, etc.).

I have a standard Toyota bedliner.  I hate to drill through the bedliner on
the rails to bolt a toolbox in place, but I assume that is the only way to
mount one.  Suggestions requested.

Message To America's Students: The War, The Draft, Your Future

We have been down this road before.

U.S. troops sent to war half a world away. American foreign policy
controlled by an arrogant elite, bent on projecting military power
around the globe. A public misled into supporting an unconstitutional
war founded on deceit and fabrications.

As the death toll mounts, we hear claims that the war is nearly won,
that victory is just around the corner. But victory never arrives.

As the public loses confidence in the government, the government
questions the patriotism of any who express doubt about the war.

When a presidential election arrives, both the Democrat and Republican
nominees embrace the policy of continued war.

The military draft comes to dominate the lives of America’s young, and
vast numbers who believe the war to be a senseless blunder are faced
with fighting a war they do not believe in, or facing exile or prison.

The year was 1968. Because voters had no choice that November, the
Vietnam War continued for another six years. Hundreds of thousands of
Americans like you died, were maimed, or suffered from diseases like
malaria. A far greater number of Vietnamese died.

Today, the war is in the quicksands and alleys of Iraq. Once again,
under the pressure of a determined resistance, we see an American war
policy being slowly torn apart at the seams, while the candidates urge
us to "stay the course" in this tragic misadventure. Today’s
Presidential candidates are not Nixon and Humphrey, they are now Bush
and Kerry.

Once again, there is one overriding truth: If war is the only choice in
this election, then war we will have.

Today enlistments in the Reserves and National Guard are declining. The
Pentagon is quietly recruiting new members to fill local draft boards,
as the machinery for drafting a new generation of young Americans is
being quietly put into place.

Young Americans need to know that a train is coming, and it could run
over their generation in the same way that the Vietnam War devastated
the lives of those who came of age in the sixties.

I am running for President, and have been against this war from the
beginning. We must not waste lives in order to control and waste more
oil. Stand with us and we may yet salvage your future and Americas’
future from this looming disaster.

Sincerely,
Ralph Nader

Try driving it on a wide gravel road and get a bit sloppy(at reasonable
speed so you can recover in any case) around the corner.  It should
beep at you *beep beep beep* and the rear end will slide back in line.

IIRC, it may only work in 4*4 mode.  Not sure, though.
