4runner front end noise question

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:20 pm

greetings toyo truck gurus – just found this newsgroup and
thought I’d float my first question at y’all.  It’s probably
a standard & obvious one, but anyhow –

Just bought a ’94 4runner with 120k miles. LOVE it. Only
possible problem I’ve noticed is:
when the weather gets down to 0 degrees, the front left
wheel makes a rubbing noise when you start driving, and
especially when turning a corner.

Is this just a worn out universal joint or boot?
Should I take it to the dealer? Or is a local mechanic ok?
Or can I inspect & replace it myself?

thanks

Cold weather is the key, sounds like you need a spindle bushing lubed.

  2. Hi Drew!  Sorry I can’t give you an answer, but my ’94 4Runner makes the
same sound you described.  And it also seems to do it during freezing
weather.  If you happen to find the cure please let me know.  I’ll do the
    same.

    Thanks!

I posted the answer. Any of you folks interested in building your own
spindle bushing lubricator? I made one for our shop, I can post a
materials list via the web and a illustrated drawing with all specs,
this saves a ton of time, cost is under $10

  4. This only applies if you are buying a vehicle through a dealer not person to person loan.
