I have a 1988 4×4 extra cab pickup with an aftermarket CD player that just
died on me this week. I was coming home from work and had just placed the
removable face back on the unit, and just as the connection was made, the
radio came to life for a split second and then died. The clock was gone and
when I removed the face again, and the little red flashing light that
indicates the face is not attached, was also gone. I assumed I had blown a
fuse and started to work on it later that evening. When I got to my truck
to dig in, I noticed that the red "flashing" light was now back on, but was
shining "solid", and the clock was back, but it did not have the correct
time. I attached the face again and turned the key, but the light and
clock went away. I began removing screws so I could remove the unit and
after a couple of minutes, I noticed that the red light was slowly coming
back on (solid) and the clock (on the unit) was too. I tested the lines
with a volt ohm meter and found that the red "power" line was getting at 12v
with the swithch on, but the yellow "memory" line, was only showing a
fraction of this, and the longer it sat after turning the ignition switch
off, the stronger it got. But, as soon as you turn the switch, it would go
back to almost nothing. So, does anybody know if there is a relay or
something along those lines that I can check or replace, or should I be
looking somewhere else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
