I don’t know first hand, but every Toyota guy I know says to buy
from Downey. I went with LC Engineering, and it has been one pain
in the ass after another…
I have a Doug Thorley header, 2 1/2 in aluminized pipe, high flow cat and a
2 chamber flowmaster on mine and I am totally happy with the whole system.
My truck didn’t have power steering when I bought it and it got a tad hard
to parallell park once I put 31′s on it. I bought the whole power steering
set up out of a low mileage 87 4runner at Crossroads Truck Salvage in the
Riverside area. Look in the parts trader for good deals on them. Also try
Mini Trucks in San Diego. You need the steering box, pitman arm, hoses,
pump, resivoir, pulleys and brackets. Best bet is to buy it as a whole set
up off the same truck. It is a total bolt in swap except for the 4 holes
that you have to drill to mount the resivoir and those are pre-marked on the
drivers side fenderwell. Figure it will take an afternoon if you are
mechanically inclined. If you need any help or additional advice then let me
know.
