Hi ya’ll!
I find that I’m going often to the gas pump with my ’92 Toyota Pickup V6.
I get about 150-175 miles per tank of gas, and that’s when I’m almost never
on 4wd. Is this normal?

I’ve got a ’94 4wd V-6 that gets at least double that. Have you tried a tune up
and air filter lately? K

My recently acquired ’91 V6 2WD Pickup gets between 15.8 and 18 mpg
depending on driving conditions (I don’t know if the ’92 has the same
size gas tank or not). That’s what I’ve observed in the last 2 months,
with very little highway driving. I don’t know if my truck is any more
"normal" than yours, but that’s what I get. If you find a way to get
better mileage, please post a message to the group!

Need more information Paul:
Do you drive it loaded or empty?
Does it have an overhead rack?
Does it have a tunneau cover?
Is it an automatic or standard?
What kind of driving do you do, city, highway or combo.
If highway, how fast do you go?
If standard, do you keep in in the lower gears for acceleration
frequently?
Have you checked the plugs, plug wires and air filter? How about the
gas filter?
Got any children? Do they drive it? ;-)
Got an annecdotal story. When I was an auto mechanic I worked at a
dealership that sold Chryslers, Mazda’s, Subaru’s and Peugeot’s. I
used to work mostly on Subaru’s. One day a guy came in who said his
gas milage had gone all to hell. He had a ’78 Subaru wagon with a five
speed. He should have been getting around 30 to 32 MPG and had
originally, but was now down around 20 MPG.
I took one look at his car and decided I did not need to do much of a
check. He was a kayak guy and carried them around on his roof whenever
he wanted to paddle.
He’d designed a roof rack that appeared to be two pieces of plywood
aproximately two feet high by four feet across. He mounted these
vertially I.E. broadside to the wind, and had two cutouts on each one
to hold two kayaks. The Kayaks at least were situated prow to the
wind, but the two pieces of plywood were not. He never removed the
rack (which was braced by 2 by 4′s) although he did not carry the
kayaks on the car all the time.
I suggested that if he removed the kayak rack he’d see a return to his
original milage. He didn’t want to do that and argued that something
was wrong with the car. Actually I agreed with him on that, but felt
that the "wrong" was the rack.
Don’t know if he ever experimented by removing it but I never saw him
bring his vehical to the shop for service any more. I did actually do
a compression check just to be sure the engine wasn’t sick to boot, but
it wasn’t.

Mostly city, but that’s why I’m saying 150-175.

No
I know that certain driving factors account for greater gas consumption. I
just want to know from other owners if this low gas mileage is normal for
this pickup. From what I’ve read on previous postins, my pickup seems to
like drinking gas a bit too much. :)

I have a ’92 Toyota Pickup V6 4×4. Just over 100K miles. I get somewhere
between 225-250 miles per tank. My milage had dropped off quite a bit (was
regularly getting 300+ miles per tank highway driving down to 200 miles per
tank) until I replaced my airfilter with the K&N replacement. Now I’m getting a
bit better mileage. Hope this helps.
