Group,
Recenly I’ve found that the ABS is not to my advantage when driving in slick
mud or lightly
snow covered roads. I feel that it is kicking in far too quickly and that I
could bring it much
closer to lockup myself and have better braking performance. Has anybody
installed a switch
to disable on demand?
Any info appreciated.

It only kicks in after the wheel locks up. Thats what they do. Sense that the
wheel has stoped turning and lets up on the breaks in a fraction of a second.
Depstite all claims otherwise, it is not possible to do it better yourself.
The only time ABS is not better, according to the manual, is in heavy graveled
roads, where the tires would dig into the gravel.

Its my understanding that the ABS kicks in after a certain percentage of
wheel
slip is detected. Depending on the system being able to sense slip on a
single
wheel and only apply ABS to that wheel is going to be a huge variable.
I was driving on a hard packed gravel road that was very wet and braking
absolutely sucked. When I want to scrub speed fast coming into a corner,
I’d
much rather deal with the lockup of 4 large tires with lots of bite than
have the
ABS do it.

I would think that you could instal a bypass switch after the ABS fuse that
could be turned off when off road. The breaking distance is longer in gravel
than without ABS.
I have had ABS in other cars and currently in my Honda. Wish I had it in my
T-100 and the ability to turn it off when off the pavement.

I’m sure it’s pretty simple, since I know a lot of people who just pull the
abs fuse when they off road. I’m sure once you find the wire, just splice
the wire into a switch, simple as that.
