Advice Needed: Raising 2WD Toyota Pickup

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:18 pm

Hi,
   I recently bought a 1991 six-cylinder 2WD Toyota Pickup.  I really
prefer the looks of the 4WD models but I don’t really need 4WD (just using
it to haul my dirt bike around) and I wanted to keep the price low.
Anyway, now that I’ve got it I’d really like to make it look better.  It
came with the factory 14" wheels so I thought I might put something bigger
on there.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  Will putting bigger
wheels require me to lift the truck at all?  This is the first truck I’ve
owned to so I’m a total newbie at this.  Any and all advice, or even a
point in the right direction, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
Oliver

  1. yes, checked into putting 15" tires on my ’86 2wd…  The folks
at les schwaub said it can be done without a lift (in my case up
to something like 235/75 r15)  They have a book at most of those
tire places where they can look that stuff up.  good luck.

  2. If you want slightly better cornering capabilities, but a harsher ride
quality, Put larger rims on and smaller aspect ratio tires. (Any good tire
store can match up the overall circumference to keep the speedo in line.)

TRD makes a larger diameter exhaust for this truck, as well… But the
aftermarket exhaust shops may be able to do the same sort of thing a little
    less expensively.

  3. I put a 3" body lift on my ’92 2WD pickup.  With that, I got 15" wheels, and
30" tires.  My truck is about 5" higher now.
