2003 4 Runner vs Sequoia

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:36 pm

Dear Dr Laura:  I have test-driven the 4Runner V8 Limited and the Sequoia
Limited today.  As you would xpect, I prefer the 4Runner but my wife prefers
the Sequoia, for all of the usual reasons.  Performance and technology vs
you can take the kids and their friends skiing in one vehicle.  Whichver
vehivle it is, it will be the one that I drive to work every day.

What should I do, assuming that money is no object (which of course it is)?

'03 Tundra Rear-Seat Cargo Room?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:36 pm

I’m considering an ’03 Tundra as my next work truck, and am wondering what
the options are as far as carrying cargo in the rear seat area of the
Access Cab model.  I understand that the rear seat is a 60/40 split design,
and that one side (the 40% side?) folds up.  Does this free up much room,
or is it really just for the occassional oversize package?

The idea I’m toying with is to install a lockable tool box in the back in
which to carry survey instruments, but I’d prefer not to remove the entire
seat — I’d like to be able to leave my son’s car seat installed in the
back.

I’ve been too busy to visit the showroom and have not been able to find any
photos of the interior with the rear seat folded up.  If anyone can point
me to online photos that might clarify things, or otherwise comment upon
the feasibility of this idea, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks.

Finding a burned out wire

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:35 pm

I somehow managed to burn a wire and now my starter won’t turn when I turn
the key (no voltage to the solenoid).  I’m using a wire directly to the
battery to start it right now (have to turn the key on, open the hood, touch
the wire to the positive terminal), but would really like to get it fixed
properly.

From my auto 1 class, I recall they put a smaller gague wire in line with a
higher gague so the smaller part burns out and protects the entire wire.
You can test them by finding the smaller gague part, and pulling the ends to
see if it stretches.  I understand how to do that, but where would I go
looking for this smaller gague section of the wire?

I tried tracing the wire on the starter solenoid, but it ran into a bunch of
other wires that were taped into a bundle, which ran into a plastic tube and
then through the firewall.  Would it be likely that the smaller gague
section would be under the dash?

Hope this made sense

Thanks,
John

Smoother Ride for a 89-94 Toyota PU

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:35 pm

Hi guys,

Was just wondering what setup would give a 89-94 Toyota a very smooth
ride just for the STREETS. I dont do any off roading and would like to
mod my truck to get a much smoother ride. So far I have taken out the
overload leaf spring on the rear and that has helped a bit for the
back. Any suggestions? BTW what did Toyota use for shocks in 89-94,
what Brand and model?..I never carry a heavy load in the bed so I wont
have to worry about that I know…Someone mentioned tires…Well I
runn 195/75 r14 tires right now…How do I know if these are truck or
car version? As for shocks, for a smoother ride, would I want a shock
that is easier to push down on it or pull out the piston fast? I
always get these two mixed up when I am inspecting the shocks off the
vehicle…

TRD Headers

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:34 pm

I am going to get headers for my truck (02 Prerunner V6).  I am getting them
for performance and low end torque and gas for the gas mileage increase.
Are the TRD headers worth it?  They are kinda spendy, but I know they won’t
void my warranty.  Are there any other aftermarket headers that wouldn’t
void my warranty?  How much are they?  Installed?  How much am I looking to
pay for installation at the dealership if I go with the TRD headers?  Will I
notice a lot of difference in the power and gas mileage?  I have already put
in the TRD air filter.  Thanks.

2F hot cam?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:34 pm

My 2F engine is finally giving up (leaking as much oil as it’s burning) and
I’d like to rebuild it with a hot cam … I had a buddy that had a FJ-40
with 2bbl weber, headers, and hot cam that ran really well both at high and
low rpm’s (had a bit of a rough idle, but never had problems at low speed).
The problem is that he bought his ‘cruiser with all this installed.  Does
anyone have information on aftermarket cams for the 2F?  Thanks,
    -Ken

I need to put new plugs in my 96 Tacoma V6 4×2.  Any comments on the
performance difference in the Bausch Platinum single ground electrode
plug Vs. the NGK 2 ground electrode plugs that come standard?
