Yes, by your air clear is a round yellow connector, jump these 2 wires,

WOW!!  It major brainfart time!  Forgot to say that the above procedure
is used to clear the code(s) after you’re all through getting the
skinny.

OK…here ya go.

Short the terminals of the check engine connector located near the
ignition coil. (This is the more or less famous, much discussed, yellow
plug that on my ’85 22RE 4×4 p/u is shoved into a rubber receptacle
holder doohickey on the driver’s side fender.) I use a bent paper clip
for the shorting wire.

Turn the ignition switch to ON – don’t start the engine.

Read the code as indicated by the number of flashes of the "Check
Engine" warning light.

For a normal op code, you should have a blink about once every 5
seconds. This sez nothing is wrong.

If you have a malfunction, the light will blink a number of times equal
to the malfunction code every 5 seconds.

There are 12 codes:

1 blinky – Normal

2 blinky – Air flow meter signal

3 blinky – Ignition signal

4 blinky – Water thermo sensor signal

5 blinky – Ox sensor signal

6 blinky – RPM signal

7 blinky – Throttle position sensor signal

8 blinky – Intake air thermo sensor signal

9 blinky – (there is no 9)

10 blinky – Starter signal

11 blinky – Switch signal

12 blinky – Knock control sensor signal

13 blinky – Knock control CPU (ECU)

That’s it…..straight out of the original ’85 manual.  Please don’t
ask me what all these malfunctions mean or how to fix them.  The manual
goes into massive detail on all this stuff and I still can’t figure
most of it out.  But, the code(s) will send you off on a direction that
might help.

I’m not sure what you mean.  It was made in July 85.  Does this help, or
is there something in the VIN?
