89 22 RE 4 Runner, 160K. My idle speed screw is moving on it’s own. It is
real "loose" and very easy to turn. I can easily turn it by hand. It has
only started doing it recently and I have had the truck for about a year and
a half. Anybody ever seen this or have any solutions (other than replacing
the whole throttle unit or whatever is involved)? I was thinking of backing
ou the screw and squirting in some RTV silicone, or maybe trying "hela"
coil. I am not real crazy about backing the screw all the way out, although
I guess I’m positive I could get it back to where it needs to be, and I have
never used "hela" coil before. It first move on it’s own after the
beginning of an extremely muddy hunting season for Texas but I am sure it is
just the rough roads that cause it to move. It is also the truck’s second
hunting season so I don’t understand why it didn’t do it before. I am
almost positive it is actually doing it in the city too but I have not
checked it in a few days. Does seem to be idling low again today which I
mostly notice when shifting, engagement of the clutch seems rougher and a
lot smoother when "properly" adjusted. As I have no tach how important is
it to have the rpm set correctly? i.e. will I damage my engine if it is not
correctly adjusted to rpm’s and what about the other adjustment on the
"intake/fuel injection manifold", is that real important. I am talking
about the plastic spring loaded deal. I would guess that the screw might
adjust air (throttle body) and the plastic deal adjusts fuel or maybe
vacuum.
