What’s the best thing to do about the sagging rear springs in the 2nd gen.

I dropped the torsion bars and lowered the front 1/2 inch…that pretty much
leveled
things out. Didn’t cost me a thing except a little ground clearance.
I haven’t driven it much since then, but I’m sure it improved overall
balance
and handling.

How do you do that? I was thinking of maybe doing that but I couldn’t find
how you do it in the manual or anything..
Thanks for the reply

"dropping" the front bars will cost you the same amount of suspension
travel, not a great idea.
What you need are new coils in the rear, and it’s not too expensive. Any
spring shop can do it for a couple hundred dollars.
Or you can order some stiffer replacements, http://www.performanceproducts.com
carries some.

Not everybody is concerned about max travel….I drive my truck only in the
winter. We
get 300 plus inches of show here. Traction is of much more concern when the
roads are
snow covered for 4 months straight.
My 1/2 inch drop didn’t seem to hurt too badly. I drove some heavily rutted
roads yesterday
and never did bottom out the front while my head was banging off the sunroof
glass.
Lift the front end so the wheels are dangling. The bolts are on either side
just back of the t-case
on the inside of the frame rails. I think I turned both sides 7-8
times….which gave me about 1/2 inch.

See:

Or get a set of heavy duty springs. Many of the mail order shops carry them, Downey, etc.
