My speedometer is making a squeaking sound that varies in pitch
according to speed (faster = higher pitch). It used to do this only on
cold (for So.Cal) mornings and go away once the inside of the truck
warmed up a bit. Now it does it most of the time. The only thing that
makes the noise go away is if i turn up the radio! :0) BTW it’s a 1991
Toyota Pickup (22RE). Is this the cable or the gage? This is the type
that has the cable right up to the back of the gage so I’m going to
pull out the gage and drive around to see if it will still squeak. Any
ideas??? can I lube the gage or the cable?? thanks

It’s most likely the cable. Take the old cable off and turn it by
hand. If it doesn’t turn smoothly, it’s probably the cable. The part
number is 83710-89188, I believe. Verify this at the dealers though.
