Would you consider the Land Cruiser of the late fifties a truck, or are you
referring to the Toyota Stout pickup of the mid-sixties?

I don’t know the first here in the States but I know my first was a 72
4×2 long bed that would flat pull stumps!!! Great little truck. Had
to sell it when I transfered overseas and with 190 k miles it still
ran like a raped ape! Being young and foolish that little 2 wd went
many places I would pass on now with a 4×4! SWEET memories!

According to Toyota the first actual pickup truck imported into the US
was the Toyota Stout.
I am impressed you guys knew of it. I am the only one in San Antonio
that seems to have ever heard of one.
Happy new year to all!

As quoted from Toyota.com "1964: Toyota imports its first truck into the
U.S. – the Stout."
Here’s the URL:
http://129.33.47.206/html/shop/vehicles/tacoma/history/tacoma_history...
I’ve seen at least one of these trucks still running around here on Oahu.
A brief web search brought up a few boards such as:
http://www.1inamillioncars.com/mb/1960sCarsArticles/ToyotaStout1965.html
so I’m not the only one hallucinating.

And the first Toyota imported to the US was in 1958, ie Landcruiser.
The Stouts were ugly little spuds, we had to do some rear brakes on a 69
model, no parts available, we ended up sending the old shoes out to be
relined.
