I am going to get headers for my truck (02 Prerunner V6). I am getting them
for performance and low end torque and gas for the gas mileage increase.
Are the TRD headers worth it? They are kinda spendy, but I know they won’t
void my warranty. Are there any other aftermarket headers that wouldn’t
void my warranty? How much are they? Installed? How much am I looking to
pay for installation at the dealership if I go with the TRD headers? Will I
notice a lot of difference in the power and gas mileage? I have already put
in the TRD air filter. Thanks.

Do they void my warranty? How much are they? Will I notice a lot of
difference in the power and gas mileage? Thanks.

If they are not TRD then yes they will probably void parts of your
engine warranty and certainly your emmissions warranty. Next: Will
they feel difference in power and gas mileage? Yes, but hardly any
unless you finish it off with the intake and exhaust. If you only
improve the middle of the flow, the two ends won’t let you do any
better.
Read your warranty booklet yourself. The installation of headers does not
void any warranty. They do not void any emission warranty if they’re
correctly designed…of course, the headers themselves are only covered by
the warranty by the makers, and the installation is only warranteed by the
shop that does the work. However, if you do have a warranty claim on the
engine, you might get guff from the dealer about the warranty…some of them
would rather say "No" than follow the law. If you’re in California, look
for California emission certification.
Note that most headers on the market do not help the bottom end. Most
headers are too big in diameter, too short, and unequal length tubes. Try
to get before and after 0-60′ times at a dragstrip. Ignore the published hp
increases, ‘cuz these are at the hp peak, not the bottom end.

Well I already did the TRD air filter so I increased my intake, and I was
thinking about doing the exhaust. But I definitely don’t want the TRD.
$700-800 for exhaust! I’m just going to cut the factory muffler off and put
in a Flowmaster, unless there is any better stuff out there. My buddy got a
flowmaster put in for about $280 and the exhaust is done with a tail tuck.
His exhaust is loud though. I want something that’s not loud, unless I am
getting on it. His exhaust is loud, but once you punch it, it almost sounds
like my stock exhaust. Like I said, I’d rather have it opposite, where it’s
quiet until I really get on it. Any suggestions as to what muffler to get
or any different brands? Thanks.

Good advice, thanks.
