This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.
America: The Good Neighbor.
Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable
editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television
commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as
printed in the Congressional Record: "This Canadian thinks it is time to
speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least
appreciated people on all the earth.
Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of
the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and
forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying
even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.
When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who
propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the
streets of
Paris. I was there. I saw it.
When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in
to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes.
Nobody helped.
The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into
discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about
the
decadent, warmongering Americans.
I’d like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the
erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other
country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the
Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don’t they fly them? Why
do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?
Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the
moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk
about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American
technocracy, and you find men on the moon – not once, but several times and
safely home again.
You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store
window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued
and hounded.
They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking
Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend
here.
When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through
age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad
and the
New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are
still broke.
I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other
people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to
the Americans in trouble? I don’t think there was outside help even during
the San Francisco earthquake.
Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I’m one Canadian who is damned tired
of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with
their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at
the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is
not one of those."
Stand proud, America!

This is one of the best editorials that I have ever
read regarding the United States. It is nice that one
man realizes it. I only wish that the rest of the
world would realize it. We are always blamed for
everything, and never even get a thank you for the
things we do.

Never-, never assume that the usa has no allies…Canada is all that is good
about the states without the guns. violence and racism.
Truth is your press degrades Canada and Canadians because of your unfounded
fear of socialist medicine. When there was a danger of further terrorist
attacks from the airborne planes, where were they re-directed?
You guessed right, Canadian airports.

Sounds like you want a pat on the back. OK, you got it. Thank you.
Don’t take our jibes so seriously, we kid you because we love you.
We don’t fear socialized medicine (you call it socialist medicine?
interesting…), we fear
socialized anything. For that matter, we’re still pretty skeptical about

I thought it was a media instilled fear of anything ending in "ism" that
doesn’t start with the preprogrammed safe word "capital".

Chris, its one of those things the people use to protect themselves from

…with a one-part brain!
If guns are, as you stated, "one of the the few *GOOD* things in america", I
think everyone in the US should have a good look at themselves and their
ideals.

Do you think American Patroits/Minutemen could have beaten the ‘red
coats’ without guns?? America would not exist without them….and it
wasn’t even their idea to invent it…socialists in China really
invented it first….do the common person there have it???
Ignorance is bliss…religion/word of mouth, brainwashing worked
well in the times when most people couldn’t read or gather their own
knowledge…via experience or the ‘media’. Guns require common sense
and a bit of intelligence to wield correctly and overcome forced
oppression. If you don’t have both, then you don’t understand guns or
what it truly takes to survive in any environment….just my 15 cent’s
worth….try getting out of your backyard first and you will see what
I mean.

I’m willing to bet the average man on the street in American couldn’t tell you
what socialism is or what country(s)) you’ll find it in. They also would
likely tell you that communism fell with the Berlin wall and it does not exist
in the world today. By the way, where are these countries that met their
socialist demise?

You’ll have to try again Rick, name a socialist country where gun ownership is
a crime. In fact there are a few where it is mandatory to own one.

I just got back from Australia- You are seeing the picture completely wrong,
I am not against strict laws on firearms, I am against laws that prevent an
honest law abiding citizen to own one. Look up every statistic from let it
be liberal or conservative reviews and Australia has had a 60%+ increase in
crime since the confiscation of firearms from law abiding citizens. The
state of Vermont has the lowest crime rate in the entire US, Just in case
you don’t know, there are no laws on firearms for law abiding citizens
there. You sir- have a very narrow mind, And I know you will come back with
your beliefs, even though I have not said anything in this post on my
beliefs-Pure Fact. Why you are talking about this and then crossposting it,
I dont know? So lets stick on topic- Nothing I say nor you say will change
anyone’s minds.

What is wrong with guns?
It’s the criminals who are the problem, not the guns.

One of the first things Hitler did when taking over Germany was to take guns
away from citizens….. ENOUGH SAID.
