Ultimate 4sp/5sp transmission

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:51 pm

I am asking your opinion on what is the strongest Toyota manual
transmission. The intended use is behind a modified 22RE at about
150hp. This will be in a 1985 or later 2wd pickup. I have been told
that the post ’85 5sp can only handle about 140 ft-lb of torque. This
vehicle will be used under race conditions on unpaved roads.

Your input is most welcome.

Thanks, Tim

The 22RET tranny is even stronger:

  2. OTT makes an adapter to put the sm420 behind the toyoya, they handle
    SB and BB power.

Celica.  If you get it out of a Supra you may have to change bell housing with
yours.  Great ratios and lots of pull throughout the gears.  5th gear is .765:1 vs
.865:1 for the stock truck.  You won’t even need to change the rear mount.  I have
one in my 84 2wd and I love it.
