Well, it looks like my radiator is not flowing. Need to get it rodded
out. Also noticed the fan is freewheeling even when hot. I understand it
should "engage" when it gets warm?

Try, taking off the upper and lower radiator hose, putting a hose in the
upper hole and stuffing it in there with a rag, then turn on the hose, about
half way. If most of the water runs out the bottom hole, your radiator is
probably all right. Check to make sure the spring in the lower hose hasn’t
rusted out, allowing it to collapse, before you spend the money on a
radiator.

If your rad is plugged, and does not transfer the heat, chances are your
cooling fan clutch will not operate.
If, however, the cooling system is working, You should have the fluid
coupling in the fan clutch operating.
