Yeah, chuck it out in the field, followed by a lot of rocks.
Get yourself either a non-usa Aisin, or get a USA factory carb rebuilt to
your specifications.
And Efficient and Land Cruiser should rarely if ever be used in the same
sentance, unless it is used like this ‘A Land Cruiser is NOT efficient’
Depending on how your truck is set up, you can expect between 10 and 16 mpg.
Reasonably, 10-13.
I get 10 around town, and 13-14 on the highway. But I run 35" tires, 4.11
diffs, etc.
You are driving around something that was designed in the late 1950′s, with
a tractor motor, a 1 ton truck drive train, with the aerodynamic cross
section of a brick. All these things work against you.
If you want to get better than the 10-13 mpg mark, and want to keep your
Crusier, consider:
Removing any non-stock bumper and replace it with a stock bumper.
Change out the diff’s for 3.70′s
change out the carb for an early to mid 1960′s single barrel
change the tires out for something NO LARGER than 27" with a less-aggressive
tread. think BFG all terrains, or Goodyear Wrangler AT/S
That will net you the 14-16 mpg range.
Considering that htese mod’s will rung you in the neighborhood of $1200…
That will probably buy you alot of gasoline
HTH.

I second that advice. I owned two FJ40′s a 1966 and a 1968, The best either
ever ran was when I put on a rebulit carter single barrel carb. Plenty of
power, Great gas mileage (great being a relative term here).
